Satellite communication are a primary means for armed forces as a reachback facility or intra-theater communications when large bandwidth or distances are invoved.

Normally satellite communication equipment is placed at fixed locations, but more and more the requirement is for equipment that can be used during mobile operations, i.e. on-the-pause or on-the-move. This implies that equipment needs to be rugged, easy to use and quick to set up.
